Living Trees Mission Statement

The mission of the Living Trees Department of UVA Sawmilling is to continue to close the carbon cycle at the beginning of the trees’ lives, not only at the end, as our other activities already address. We use research and applicable canopy management strategies to leverage the health of the urban canopy at the University of Virginia and throughout Charlottesville.

UVA Grounds Tree Walks

These free tours are hosted by UVA Sawmilling, led by Allyson Gibson, a UVA landscape architecture graduate student and ISA certified arborist. Learn about the history and botany of the trees you walk past every day.

All tours meet at the Jefferson Statue in front of the University of Virginia Rotunda.
