Wood Craft, the Traditional Way
-
This course explores the material culture of architecture from the perspective of materials science. Material culture is the physical stuff that is part of human life, and includes everything humans make and use including materials we use to shape the environment.
Graduate student, Ammon Embleton (M.Arch ‘23), worked to craft workbenches for the students enrolled in the course. These workbenches will be used by students to practice woodworking using hand tools and traditional woodworking techniques. Using a couple different wood species, students will build a number of pieces that explore both the materials we use and the spaces they inhabit
