Charlottesville Downtown Mall Willow Oaks

As requested by the City of Charlottesville, UVA Sawmilling will aide in the organization and distribution of the logs removed from the Down Town Mall. These Willow Oaks are more than just lumber to Charlottesville residents, and we aim to continue the story of these logs.

Originally installed as part of the revival of the Charlottesville Downtown Mall, these Willow Oaks have cast shade on residents for decades. Want to be a part of their story in a different way? Fill out either of the forms below to be a part of the community around these cherished trees.

Project Request

Projects should focus on products that can serve the community and/or the Downtown Mall. Lumber will be air dried then solar kiln dried to a stable moisture content.

Please use the request form below to request materials from the Willow Oak trees that will be milled. We hope to be able to fulfill many requests. There is limited quantity of materials and we will do our best to meet everyone's needs.

Reach out to Steven Gaines (gainess @ charlottesville.gov) regarding this project or the life cycle of the trees. Eric Bredder (eb8ga @ virginia.edu) can be reached about these forms and milling requests.

Sawmill Activities

Please indicate that you would like to be included in the saw milling event to produce lumber from these already removed Downtown Mall trees. You will be sent further information about the event.
